"Invest in your future, become a shoemaker... Never buy shoes again!"
Shoemaking is one of the oldest trades in the world. Yet it is a dying art due to many years of ‘throw-away fashion’ and the factory made shoe making process, pushing the traditional handmade artisan out.
It's time to bring it back and never have to buy shoes from a highstreet store again, to teach others in small or large communities, learn to repair your shoes rather than throwing them out! Here at The parachute Collective you will embark on a journey of Traditional footwear design and construction to make yourself a comfortable and well made shoe or boot.
The skills you will learn with us you can then take out and make on your own, though shoe making does require a fare amount of hand tools, machines, materials and time, through out the course you will learn trade secretes of how to speed of the process or alternative methods of achieves some of the steps and techniques upon request.
During the course you will be having plenty of time to practice the steps to achieve a beautiful shoe, our goal is to reach a product that is crafted with attention to all detail, comfortable and durable. Aiming for a product that is Handmade not Homemade. All Materials and Tools are including during the duration of the Course. We have a large selection of leathers in-stock, though if you have some materials you are keen to please do bring them along and we can test and see if they will be suitable for your footwear project. If you are wanting to continue making footwear after the course is over we recommend that students bring a notebook for taking notes, a camera (phone or digital) to document the stages as there are over 180 to make one pair of shoes! The course will end with a Q & A helping with any questions regarding suppliers for materials, components, tools ect. While selecting your course you will have some options of dates which are adjustable if you email for other date options.
See what previous students had to say about their experience at The Parachute Collective.
